Buy a ready-made bat or build your own? That depends on how often and at what level you play.
Which bat suits you?
| You play… | Our advice |
|---|---|
| Now and then, at home or on holiday | A ready-made beginner bat or a set with balls. Ready to play and affordable. |
| At school or as a junior player | A ready-made bat for students: light, with lots of control. |
| Every week and you want to improve | A ready-made bat for advanced players, or an ALL blade with two allround rubbers from the bat builder. |
| Competition | Build your bat from a separate blade and two ITTF-approved rubbers, tuned to your playing style. |
Ready-made or build your own?
Ready-made bat
Blade and rubbers are already matched and glued. Ideal to start with. For competition, check whether the rubbers are ITTF-approved.
Build your own
You choose the blade, forehand rubber and backhand rubber yourself, so speed, spin and control match your style. For €10 extra we glue it for you.
What to look for
Be honest about your level
Do not automatically choose the fastest or most expensive equipment. Equipment that is too fast makes your game unstable. Choose what suits your technique today and upgrade later.
Rubber and blade work together
Soft rubbers work well on a stiffer blade; harder rubbers suit a more flexible blade. Read more in our guides for blades and rubbers.
Change rubbers before your blade
Rubbers wear out; a good blade lasts for years. Want more speed? First try faster rubbers on your trusted blade.
